Don't Have a Cow, Man: Consumer Acceptance of Animal-Free Dairy Products in Five Countries

Concern with the ethical, environmental and health consequences of livestock industry is pushing growth a sector animal-free alternatives. Advancing research allowing these products to increasingly deliver experiences on par beyond they originally sought emulate, but widespread consumer adoption has not yet been realised. This surveyed 5,054 individuals from Brazil, Germany, India, UK USA, examining nature extent acceptance dairy derived precision fermentation, one three main pillars alternative proteins. We find substantial across countries for products, cheese, seeing 78.8% consumers as probably or definitely likely try such product, 70.5% buy, substantially higher than previous found cultivated meat products. Consumers anticipated cheese be significantly more tasty current vegan just safe basic animal-derived while rating it ethical environmentally friendly. Multiple linear regression revealed that within dietary identifiers, vegetarianism veganism were strong predictors willingness buy flexitarianism showed strongest predictive power buy. Of all variables, predictor was level consumption. Further regressions taste perception key driving purchase intent countries. The implications results development are discussed.
